MILSTEIN RUNWAY:

CORUSCATE

PATH

Rani Sheth,

Ashlyn Dumaw, Shegofa Ibrahimi

This design was inspired by light fields, which are vector functions that describe the amount of light flowing in every direction through every point in space. One can represent these light fields based on their polarization, and this creates linear trajectories and v shaped movements in the field. My piece aims to represent these light fields through a v-shaped cut out and metal strips that mimic these trajectories while simultaneously reflecting light.

NARROW

Iasia,

Cate Bellesheim, Liriana Nezaj

My garment is inspired by the narrow sliver of light you see when in the dark tunnel of life. As you walk closer and closer to the light, the edges of the light get wider and wider while less and less of your body is covered in darkness. Your journey to hope grows with every step you take. Life is made better with that sliver of light. You will eventually reach that light and life will be well worth it in the end.

Zoe Alvarez, Emily Li

On a Saturday evening, I watch the flame of an intricately braided candle reflect off of my fingernails. As the fire is quenched with a sizzle in a glass of wine, we bookend the Jewish period of rest. This is Havdalah, a ritual reset. My design is inspired by the shape and atmospheric effect of these candles. With it I hope to capture the immersive feeling these moments give me.

This ethereal look captures the enchanting play of light between the garment and its surroundings. The bolero top and long skirt, adorned with a beaded bodice, create a glimmering illusion elevated by the choice of shimmery, semi-transparent fabric. As the light maps across the garment's surface, it becomes a visual representation of the nuanced journey from the simplicity of youth to the depth of maturation, mirroring the multifaceted layers that define the human experience. This design emphasizes the connection between the evolving self and the intricacies of outward perspective.

MEANDERING

Ashlyn Lee,

Grace Crowell, Pola Levy

The flux of light and emotion remains constant throughout existence. While reliance upon inconsistency may seem counterintuitive, the expectation of surprise and obstacle leads to a contradictory mindset oasis. This look highlights individually hand-tacked, undulating pleats pointing to the lightness and structure of the top. The balance of craftsmanship and spontaneity reflect how consistency of unpredictability can be conducive to confidence and joy.

MEANDERING

Sadie Kaufman,

Kate Stiens

Light flows, light wanders, light takes its course on this path. A silk drapery moves with the body in its curiosity. Metal hardware catches light in this realm. A certain lightness in movement catches the eye—watch as it meanders.

flat

Jianing Zhao,

Margaret Tsai, Anthony Reaves

Photography collapses dimensionality and temporality, by flattening objects onto a sensitized surface and framing perception as a continuous process. A kaleidoscope and a stereoscope at once, Voided Vision both reconstructs and rejects dimensionality and temporality as semiotic infrastructures, by creating a Riemann space of serially produced, uncannily fragmented, and incoherently reconstituted bodies from across time and space that disintegrate unitary subjectivity and defy tangibility. It gazes into the aftermath of the photographic after-image, excavating imagined and archived corporeal histories, subverting canonical narratives of the runway stage through embodied reenactments in the production of forms of verisimilitude.

JOURNEY

Jane Dexter,

Gabrielle Moore, Isabella Gallitto

This is an embodiment of the journey I find myself on as I follow the light given to me by true love, light that illuminates a path I never knew before, to a boundlessly beautiful world. I found this light in their eyes, the way they looked at me with love that surrounds me, that makes me sparkle, shine, and shimmer with ethereality. It made me open my eyes to the magic and beauty of life. And ever since I lost them, I've held onto this even more closely as I embark on this journey to embody this love, follow the path this love has led me down, and share this love with the world.

reflection

Cleah,

Ella Montesa

My piece is in response to the reflective aspect of light. The top is made entirely of strung together synthetic pearls paired with a low-waisted, wide-leg pant. Although different materials, the sheen of the pearls and pants work together to create a full body reflection of actual light and oneself.

GROUNDING/APATHY

Zada Stuart,

Rachel Liang

It is easy to become wrapped up in our passions and drawn away from ourselves despite focusing on our individual achievement. By embracing APATHY, and submitting to the ebbs and flows of life, I’ve experienced a form of  liberation and GROUNDING. Using natural dye processes, welcoming their unpredictable outcomes and circular motifs through the use of natural dyes and secondhand materials, I hope to promote circularity and demonstrate this feeling of grounding you can achieve through apathy.

LIGHTSPEED

Mia Bachrack,

Alessandra Good, Margaret Watkins

California is my CULMINATION, here in a place brimming with light, I find myself pulled together. All my facets and fragments undulating - loved ones, places of sentiment, childhood memories — this is my Nirvana. I outstretch my wings to these places, for here I feel whole. Here at the speed of light all the birds of my childhood flock and flit in a cooing group of fanfare. They form my being in a cloud of golden tipped feathers trailing down coils of warm autumnal air.
