Design Spotlight: Juliana daRoza

Qué Bonita

Qué Bonita

Juliana daRoza is a senior majoring in Fashion Design and double minoring in Human Development and Art History. Her collection, “Qué Bonita” intersects the Mexican culture along with the Catholic church while intertwining inspiration from her family heritage. Through her collection she hopes to communicate the beauty within her cultural background while highlighting bridal design as worthy of its own fashion moment. DaRoza feels that bridal wear has been pushed aside by the fashion industry in recent years as “not true fashion” and she wants to bring the spotlight back to the elegance of bridal wear through her designs. The most difficult part of her design process was honing down on her designs and ideations and what stories she wanted to convey through her collection. As she closes out her final semester at Cornell, she looks back with endearment on all the amazing people she has met through the fashion program and all of the close friends she was able to make. Her advice to anyone coming into fashion is to be motivated, remember to have fun within the process, and, even though it will get hard, “you just have to remember your passion and what inspired you to be here.” DaRoza will leave Cornell with her head high, knowing that her heritage and history will inspire many others like her on their journey to success.
